FAQs

Common Questions About Our Qualifications

Which qualification do I need for my ECS Gold Card?
+
For an ECS Gold Card as a qualified electrician, you typically need a Level 3 qualification (Diploma in Electrical Installation or equivalent NVQ), the current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and an AM2 assessment. If you're an experienced worker without formal qualifications, our Level 3 NVQ route can get you there. We'll assess your individual situation during your eligibility check and confirm exactly what you need.
I've been working as an electrician for years but have no qualifications – can I still get qualified?
+
Yes. Our Level 3 Experienced Worker route is designed specifically for electricians like you. It's a portfolio-based assessment that recognises your on-the-job experience and gets you formally qualified without having to retrain from scratch. You'll need to demonstrate competence across the required units, and we guide you through the entire process.
What's the difference between 18th Edition and Inspection & Testing (2391)?
+
The 18th Edition (BS 7671) is the current wiring regulations – it's essential knowledge for all electricians and required for most ECS cards. Inspection & Testing (2391) is a separate, more advanced qualification that allows you to inspect and test electrical installations, issue your own certificates (EICs and EICRs), and work as an approved/qualified supervisor. Most electricians do 18th Edition first, then progress to 2391.
Which areas do you cover?
+
We're based in Stanmore, North West London and cover the whole of Greater London, plus Milton Keynes, Reading and Southend-on-Sea. If you're just outside these areas, get in touch – we may still be able to help.
Are your qualifications recognised by JIB and scheme providers?
+
Yes. All our qualifications are awarded by City & Guilds – the awarding body recognised and accepted by JIB, ECS, NICEIC, NAPIT, Stroma, and other competent person schemes. We only deliver industry-standard qualifications that meet the requirements for ECS card grading and scheme membership.
